15 Ramadan 1442

Last night, immediately after completing juz 15, my parents told me Rumi Uncle’s big brother passed away in Bangladesh due to COVID-19, which is currently ravaging the country.

I have known Rumi Uncle for most of my life. Whenever I think of him, I immediately see his big goofy smile and hear his boisterous laughter, like when he insisted on taking photos with my siblings and me as if we were celebrities at the last big family wedding we attended before pandemic times. Uncle bathed my own big brother with his hands before he was laid to rest.

Last night, for the first time in my life, I heard the wonderful, joyful Rumi Uncle of my childhood cry for the love of his lost brother.
