Numbers

I had my students watch and discuss Nadine Labaki’s Where Do We Go Now? this week, after we wrapped up our discussion on Homer’s Odyssey.

The movie is set during the Lebanese Civil War. The war lasted 15 years during which approximately 120,000 people died.

In the span of less than ONE YEAR, the U.S. has lost approximately 210,000 lives to COVID-19 due to government malfeasance, an inequitable healthcare system, and social irresponsibility.

There truly is something deeply wrong morally, ethically, spiritually with us if that number does not make us pause.

Also, I’m not actually sleeping here. I am thoroughly enjoying the sun and grass and Shaggy.

Jumu’ah Mubarak. Have a good weekend.
